WHY I PUT THIS COLLECTION TOGETHER...
I walked away from hip hop for years.
Then one question from my son changed the way I looked at making music.
I THOUGHT THAT PART OF MY LIFE WAS OVER.
I started rapping and making music over 25 years ago when I was 14 years old.
For close to a decade, I wrote songs, recorded music and performed throughout California with a Christian hip hop group I helped form called Methodical Elements.
Then life changed.
I got married. Became a husband. Became a father. Took on real responsibilities.
And somewhere along the way, I stopped making music.
Part of me had started believing hip hop belonged to an earlier version of myself—that becoming a responsible grown man meant leaving that part of me behind.
For years, I did.
Until I played some of my old music for my kids.

And my son asked me:
“Dad, why don’t you make music anymore?”
I didn’t have a good answer.
That question eventually brought me back to the mic.
But I wasn’t coming back to recreate who I was at 20.
I had a marriage.
Children.
Faith.
Responsibilities.
Failures.
Victories.
Struggles.
Â
A whole lot more life behind me.
And as it turned out…
I had Something Worth Saying.
That’s what this collection represents.

For a long time, I thought becoming more...
responsible meant becoming less creative.
I don’t believe that anymore.
I also don’t believe chasing a dream gives a man permission to neglect the people depending on him.
There’s another way.
Don’t sacrifice your family for the dream.
But don’t automatically sacrifice the gift either.
That’s part of what this chapter of music represents to me.
I want my children to grow up knowing their dad didn’t just tell them to use their gifts.
They watched him use his.
